For some reason, I had my mind set on using a firefox plugin. As I mentioned previously, I went with InfoRSS first. It was fine but very distracting and it would list the 10 or so oldest posts from each feed every time I opened my browser – not just the unread ones. Not optimal.
I then tried Wizz RSS. It interfered with my bookmarks, which I always keep opened on the left hand side of my browser. I didn’t like having to switch back and forth. The setup wasn’t very clear either. It took me a while to figure out how to set up a Watch List – maybe I’m stupid.
In any case, both plugins had the same problem: synching between my work and home computer was impossible.
Well, quite frankly, I don’t know why I’ve been fighting using Google tools all this time. I created a gmail account just 8 or 9 months ago. Didn’t find it special. I slowly started Picassa (the photo management tool). *shrug* Alright, not bad.
But then… Google Reader happened! I had one of those “ah AH!” moments. It is just brilliantly simplistic (in a good way). Adding feed is easy. It keeps track of your read and unread post with no trouble. Organizing your feeds is a breeze. I don’t have to worry about which computer I access the page from anymore.
In one word: I’m hooked (right, that’s three, but you get the point)!
I think I mentioned once or twice or maybe thrice that I was going to the screening of We Are Wizards at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Brookline on Thursday.
Well, I went, I saw and it was a really great experience!
The screening started at 7:30pm and lasted about 1:20. The Director, Josh Kouri, spent 3 years making the documentary. I’m no film critics, but I really enjoyed it. However, I thought it focused a lot on the Wizard Rock movement, more than any other aspect of the fandom.
Melissa Anneli, Heather Lawver and Brad Neely are featured – as the non-Wizard Rock participant in the Harry Potter fandom movement. They’re time is on-screen pretty short, unfortunately. Brad doesn’t not censor himself, and freely blurs out the “F” word. I don’t mind so much, but consider yourself warned. Check out cinematical.com’s review if you’d like a more in-depth look at the documentary.
At the end of the film, Josh, Melissa Anneli, Joe and Paul DeGeorge answered a few questions from the audience, which was very nice of them.
Finally, Harry and The Potters played a few songs. Check out these pictures, and this footage:
We are done with this year’s taxes. The State’s $7 refund was posted to my account on Monday and the Federal’s $165 one was posted this morning – hasn’t cleared yet.
I’m very happy this year, we almost broke even. We didn’t make a huge interest-free loan to the government, nor do we have to come up with any amount of money – I’m most proud of the $7 from the State.
I understand people get very excited at the idea they’re getting $1,000’s in tax refunds. What I don’t understand is that they get excited at the idea: Read the rest of this entry »
The concept is simple and very ingenious. It comes off the idea that someone’s trash is some else’s – free - treasure.
You have something you want to get rid of, but is is good condition and would be stupid to throw away? Go to Freecycle.org and find a community near you.
Each community is on Yahoo! Groups. You can search a little more easily here.
When you have something to offer, simply send a post to the group. A lot of people leave the item on their front lawn (weather permitting, of course) knowing that someone will come and pick it up. If you have a more delicate item, you can coordinate with the person interested.
On the other hand, you can also send a “Wanted” post, when you are looking for something.
Freecycling is a great idea, and I encourage all of you to check it out.
This is a follow up post to Spring cleaning: Online account, where I described the steps I started taking to clean up my accounts.
A few people ended up here searching for the terms: “i want delete my jobster account” or “how to delete a jobster account”.
I wrote earlier that I sent an e-mail to customerservice@jobster.com requesting my account to be deleted. As of today, I have not received any answer.
Jobster’s Privacy Policy states that:
Opt-Out/Correct/Delete/Deactivate
You may elect not to receive future communications from Jobster or to discontinue use of our Service. If you are a registered User, please log in and visit your account settings page and uncheck the box related to sending information to you via email. You may also email us at customerservice@jobster.com.
Needless to say that this didn’t work. So, today, I filled out the Contact Us form, and received an acknowledgment: “Thank you for using Jobster. We have received your information and will follow up with you shortly should you require further assistance.” Will keep you posted.
Another “Needless to say…”: I read the privacy policy/term of use before I sign up to anything from now on, to find out how easy it is to delete an account.
~~ Update ~~
I received a confirmation that my account was deleted a few minutes ago. Thing is: I can still log in to my account.
~~ Update 2 ~~
I received another e-mail confirming that my account was deleted, with a note: “Your account has been deleted; please note if you log back in it will reactivate your account. If you wish to verify that your account has been deleted, please try searching for yourself under the ‘Find People’ option in Jobster.com”
I like TV as much as the next person. Maybe a little less. Among the (short) list of shows I watch, one of my favorites is The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel.
Why do I like this show?
It’s just awesome!
Alright, you want a better reason? I’ve got a good old fashion high-school crush on Sig Hansen.
Ok, ok, more seriously, while these 2 explanations are perfectly true, I have an enormous respect for these guys.
You’d have to pay me a lot to walk around on a boat’s deck when waves come crashing down as high as buildings, while trying to launch or pull up a pot. It’s wet and cold… And the ice, don’t get me started on the ice.
Bottom line: they make it look easy. Of course, everything’s is easy when I’ve got my butt on the couch watching other people do it. But we know it’s so not!
Deadliest Catch, Season 4, is on tonight, at 9 pm on the Discovery Channel.
